Stritch Soccer Teams Welcomed Street Dreams Soccer Academy players, coaches to October 22 games

Oct 20, 2022

The Stritch women’s soccer and men’s soccer teams welcomed players and coaches from Street Dreams Soccer Academy to their Oct. 22 games against the Judson (Ill.) University.

Street Dreams players accompanied Stritch players as they took the field prior to both games. During halftime of each game, the youth players participated in an on-field scrimmage.

Milwaukee-based Street Dreams Soccer Academy was founded by five childhood friends, including Favian Gonzalez, who earned four letters for the Stritch men’s soccer team and graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 2019. The founders wanted to provide a competitive soccer environment for Milwaukee youth that would develop leadership, integrity and service to others through mentorship, guidance and a family culture.

“I am proud of the impact Favian is having on the youth of our community,” said Stritch Director of Soccer Jamie Bladen, ‘16. “He is taking what he learned in the classroom, on the campus and as a member of our soccer team and making a difference that will have a lasting impact.”

“Our players are excited to see college players in action and to be on the field with them,” said Gonzalez. “They will have a chance to learn how soccer can open doors to education and careers. I am thankful to my alma mater for making this opportunity possible for our players.”
